Facts.....
Q) Is this Intramural play?
A) Although it is similar to intramural sports it is not the same. Playing on the club team will give you an opportunity to travel and play other great athletes at UVA, UMD, VA TECH, DUKE, VILLANOVA, UNC, ETC.
Q) Do I need to know how to play basketball?
A) We are asking that you know a general understanding of the sport. We are also looking for people who are willing to play together and listen.
Q) Does it cost to play on the club team?
A) Since this is a new club we are currently under probation from the SGA. So memebers are required to have some money for gas and food until we are funded from the SGA. Its the only way. The cost for all the gear is around $60 a player..It includes CUSTOMIZED: Reversible Practice Jerseys.
Q) What is the required GPA?
A)Minimum GPA of a 2.75
Q) Who is the coach?
A) Technically there is no coach, but we all are going to be the coach and give suggestions and votes to how the team wants to be run.
More Facts:
I am only taking 13 more members for the club team. Reason being is because in a game there is only 5 players, so I do not want like 20 people on the team and then some people not playing in a game.. SO I am only taking 13 more members.
I am hoping on having tryouts sometime during the begining of the Fall 09 so i can know who is in and who isnt. Or i might just go around recruiting students to play for the club.
As for courts and practices. The new gym is currently being built and it is planned on being open during the spring sometime. There is also outdoor courts available. The first semester we are going to have to practice at the MCV Campus Rec. Center which is about 6 minutes away from the Monroe Campus..SO ride a bus.
As for games, as of now we are registered under the www.eastcoastball.com..there is other universities that are signed up. Also I am planning on attending the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Championship against other schools in the country.
