Japanese Language Exchange Club
Hello all! I am the new leader this year. My name is Cody Parker. Nice to meet you all! Our first meeting has not been planned yet because I need to talk to Takeuchi-sensei and she is out of town right now. But, expect something soon! I will definitely notify everyone ASAP! The date will be set by the first day of class.
Anyway, my goal this semester is to enhance everyone's Japanese skills, do lots of fun multicultural activities, and build relationships within our awesome little community! It'd be nice to have friends with similar interests, right? I am going to REALLY push to get the Japanese exchange students to join us so we can all practice Japanese with native speakers.
I know last semester did not have any really big events. This year is going to be different though! Here are some of the things I have planned.
-Local Field Trips-
Dallas Japanese Botanical Garden
Asian Supermarket
Sushi Restaurant
Karaoke
Six Flags
-Tutoring-
Tutoring Sessions for UNT Japanese Language Students
-Communication Activities-
Food Parties & Chat Sessions
Pen Pals
Youtube Videos
-Cultural Activities-
Origami
Calligraphy
Japanese Games (Shogi, Go, etc)
Tea Ceremonies
Cooking (really basic things that do not need a lot of equipment)
Otsukimi (Moon watching)
Speech Contest (with a small prize for the winners)
Haiku writing
Movie days
Nintendo DS Play Day
Sudoku/Crossword/Japanese Puzzles (Kakuro,Hitori, etc)
Coloring/Art days
Para Para Dance Instruction
J-pop/J-rock Appreciation Day (with a sign-up sheet for songs the members want played)
Cultural Presentations
Also, I had the idea of having a cosplay contest during Halloween. I think that would be REALLY fun and since a lot of you guys really enjoy Anime, I think ya'll would really enjoy yourselves. If we have the funds for it, some of these events will have prizes like books, movies, etc.
The only thing stopping us from doing everything on this list is that I haven't received a final confirmation from Takeuchi-sensei yet. Once I get that, we should be good to go!
I need officers for the 2009 Fall Semester. All positions are open, so please apply by sending me a message on facebook or e-mailing me. We REALLY need a historian BEFORE August 26th that can come to the Mean Green Fling, that way we can start a 2009 scrapbook with our first group activity!
We will have a booth at the UNT Mean Green Fling club day on August 26th from 5:00 to 10:00 PM. Come see us! We'll be doing origami, calligraphy, have an origami frog hopping competition (w/ prizes!), and other fun activities! We'll also have Japanese candy, if you're into sweets and stuff! If anyone can help me run the booth, PLEASE let me know because as of right now, I am the only person that is going to be there. Help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Make sure you guys come visit us at the Mean Green Fling day! It'll be really fun!
Information about the first meeting will be up soon. You can contact me anytime if needed. I'm here to answer questions and help out when I can! I can't wait to hear from you guys! Let's have a fun semester!
