Linda Baxter Emory graduated from Georgia State University in 1962 with a B.S. in Mathematics, many electives from the School of Actuarial Science, and having passed the first two actuarial examinations. She worked while she was at the University including three years as a Statistical Research Assistant for the Regents of the University System of Georgia pioneering the college admission requirements utilized to this day. In 1969, she became the first female in Georgia to have attained Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries, the second student from Georgia State, and one of some 35 women and 2000 men in the entirety of the United States and Canada. She retired in 2000 as Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary for the North American businesses of ING, a global financial organization. In 2002, she returned to Georgia State and retook some of the mathematics courses she had taken almost 50 years before. Mrs. Emory will share her experiences in the context of the environment in which she operated.
